Rules and Scoring

Singles Score Sheets:

Skating ability: The skater’s ability to pull off all moves attempted. The skater may attempt difficult moves and earn points in other category, but if unsuccessful on execution of that move may loose points here. This also is the skater’s ability to keep beat with music, basic skating skills and execute basic jam skating moves.

Degree of Difficulty: This is where points are earned for the difficulty of the tricks, spins, footwork, jumps, or a combinations of such done quickly together. The harder the moves that were executed during the performance the higher the score.

Choreography & Originality: This is where you give points for moves that are original and not seen often. Combinations of moves put together that seem to flow seamlessly with no effort. The way the whole performance was laid out so to flow easily from one move to another with no pausing or dead spots. Also did the skater use the music chosen well, to go with his moves.

Showmanship & Poise: This is where skaters earn points for their reaction to performing. Did they seem to enjoy showing their talents to everyone and having fun with their performance? Did the crowd seem to be cheering and liking what they saw from the skater? Did the skater seem to be well balance on his skates, show he had control of the floor and keep everyone’s attention watching and mainly entertaining everyone.

Doubles & Team Score Sheets:

Synchronization: This is the most important judging element for the doubles (Trukin) / team events. The skaters most of the time should be not just in synchronization with each other but also the music. The skaters should look like a mirror of each other to the smallest detail unless in a move that is clearly seen to be different from one another or purposely assisting their partners. The skaters should set their moves to the beat of the music. Basically with this scoring everyone starts perfect at 40 and with each error [off beat with music for any duration (a few beats of music), off from their partners’ moves unless done purposely as told above or if a partner falls and looses sync] should have one point removed for each incident. After the program taking all points off for each incident from the original 40 given as a starting point should set this part of score.

Skating Ability & Difficulty: The skaters’ ability to pull off all moves attempted. The skaters may attempt difficult moves and earn points, but if unsuccessful on execution of that move may loose points also. This also is the skaters’ ability to do basic skating moves and execute basic jam skating moves. Also mixed in this section the more difficult the moves and tricks the more points earned.

These are just guidelines if you choose to use these score sheets. These score sheets are modeled after common score sheets used for other type skating competitions, but modified to be used for Jam Skating Meets. In the past 12 years I have used these modified sheets with great results and ease for the judges to score quickly. I provide comment space for the judges to right notes to the skaters on what they saw they should improve and work on or on certain moves that the judges wish to compliment on.
